This work is built from footage the artist recorded inside a radioactive waste storage facility on Orchid Island (Lanyu), Taiwan — a site holding 100,000 barrels of nuclear waste, constructed in the 1980s on Tao Indigenous ancestral land without the community's informed consent. Footage of a promotional video reassuring visitors of the facility's safety becomes the structure for a field of digitally modeled moss native to the island, mapped to the source image's own luminance.
The moss replaces the image entirely, while the promotional video's original soundtrack and voiceover remain audible, mixed with field recordings from the island — the facility's language of safety and regulation persisting under an image it no longer controls. The work moves between documentation and digital intervention, using an ecological form to occupy the space of an institutional one. It does not resolve this disconnect but holds it in view: an image of nature, itself constructed, standing in for what the institutional narrative displaced.
